Radu Drăgușin has admitted he chose to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer for the project presented to him by Fiorentina.
Gianluca di Marzio report comments from the 24-year-old today after he officially joined the Italian side on Wednesday.
Tottenham exit
Radu Dragusin will be spending the season on loan with the Serie A side after the two sides quickly agreed a deal this week. The agreement contains an obligation for Fiorentina to sign him permanently at the end of the season.
The Romanian centre-back is likely to be the first of several departures from Tottenham this summer.
They’re busy reshaping for Roberto de Zerbi, who has already spent big on the squad this summer. He’s also already signed two new centre-backs in Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke.
That pushed Drăgușin further towards the periphery, and it seems he’s been convinced by the project on offer at Fiorentina.
“The fact that I’ve come here means that Fiorentina is all that matters. I want to stay here to achieve great things and repay the club’s faith in me,” he said.
“This summer’s negotiations began with a call from Paratici, whom I know very well – and vice versa. The fact that he was here had a big influence.” And on the club, he said: “I chose Fiorentina because it has a plan for growth.”
Tottenham thanks
The defender is looking to get back on track in Italy after a difficult few years at Tottenham. And he’s already setting goals.
“I want to develop and improve so I can achieve great things,” he added.
“I’ve met the lads and they’re all on the same page. I’ve seen a desire to improve and a lot of enthusiasm: there’s a very positive atmosphere.”
Not that he’s looking back at his time at Tottenham with anything but positivity. In fact, he’d like to thank Spurs for their help.
“I want to thank the club that helped me grow as a man and as a footballer. There, I experienced a different environment to the one in Italy, and it helped me win the Europa League,” he concluded.
