Celta Vigo want to sign Wolves youngster Fer López in the winter market, months after letting him move to Molineux.

Club president Marián Mouriño and sporting director, Marco Garcés, have publicly talked about bringing the 21-year-old back to the club. At one point, there was so much confidence coming from Vigo that the move felt imminent.

The attacking midfielder is keen on returning to his old club. He’s played 230 minutes from nine Premier League matches, and Rob Edwards hasn’t counted on him in the league this month.

Wednesday’s edition of Faro de Vigo reports Celta Vigo are waiting for Wolves’ final decision.

The newspaper claims they have made two different offers to the English club. The first one is a loan until the end of this season and the other a loan for 18 months.

In both proposals, Celta Vigo will pay a loan fee to Wolves and cover a large portion of López’s current salary. Faro de Vigo insist the player will still would have to take a massive pay cut, which he has already agreed to do.

Reading between the lines, it seems initially it was assumed Wolves would cover more of the salary than they’re prepared to, indeed that’s if they’re covering any at all now. Instead, Celta will likely have to pay more than they bargained for, and Lopez accept less.

Wolves tried to send the Spain U21 international to a Championship club but have been unsuccessful. That’s because of his firm desire to return to Celta Vigo.

According to the report, the youngster only wants to return to his former club. His agent, Jorge Mendes, has informed Wolves that his client will only leave for Celta Vigo in January, and is pushing hard.

The Spanish club want to find out whether Wolves will accept one of their offers or request to make changes. They are waiting for the response, which hasn’t arrived yet.

The delay is causing discomfort at López’s old club. Faro de Vigo state their ‘biggest fear is that negotiations will drag on and the deal will fall through in the final days of the transfer window’.Therefore, Garcés has already lined up alternatives.

Mendes is pushing for Wolves to sanction a move. The super-agent, his client and Celta Vigo are all waiting for the English club’s final verdict.

Wolves now appear to have Celta Vigo right where they want them. They’ve worked the situation to secure a better deal than what was pushed early in January.
