Chelsea‘s Genesis Antwi has received his first senior call-up from Sweden manager Graham Potter for November’s international break.
The 19-year-old came up through the ranks of the Premier League side’s youth system and made his first team debut in 2025. He played two matches in the UEFA Conference League under Enzo Maresca.
Last season, he didn’t feature for the Blues and settled for minutes with Chelsea’s youth teams.
Chelsea owned player rewarded
In September 2025, the defender made his debut for Sweden U21 and has played five matches so far. He missed the last international break because of illness and his last appearance for Sweden U21 was in March.
In order to let him continue his development, the west London club sent the right-back on loan to RC Strasbourg in August.
Genesis Antwi has enjoyed a good run with Strasbourg this season, playing 709 minutes in eight matches. He even operated as a left-back in his Ligue 1 debut in their 4-0 defeat to Marseille in August.
The Chelsea man started eight matches in a row before dropping to the bench in their 5-1 win over AJ Auxerre last weekend. His performances for the French club have helped him make it to the Sweden squad.
Graham Potter has also heaped praise on the fullback, and Sportbladet have relayed his comments. The newspaper says he has been a ‘hidden gem’ because he moved to London at the age of 11.
Chelsea have high hopes
Bologna’s Emil Holm will miss the November international break, and his absence has led Graham Potter to include Genesis Antwi in his squad. The former Chelsea boss explains what convinced him to hand the youngster his first call-up.
“Genesis has done well in the U21 national team. With Emil Holm injured, we have chosen Felix Beijmo as a slightly more experienced full-back and then Genesis with his qualities such as incredible pace and speed. He has done well against teams like PSG and Monaco,” he said.
The manager adds he has held talks with those who worked with the defender at Chelsea.
“I have spoken to people who have worked with him there and they think highly of him, so I have a good idea. He will come in and help the group,” Potter explained.
Antwi could make his debut against Bosnia and Herzegovina or Poland in the UEFA Nations League later this month.
