Wolves invested around €25m to sign Fer López from Celta Vigo in June. The move hasn’t worked out yet for the attacking midfielder, who has one assist from nine matches.
Recent claims in Spain have stated the 21-year-old could return to the La Liga side in the winter market.
On December 2nd, Celta Vigo president Marián Mouriño said she’s ready to welcome him back to the club. On Tuesday, their sporting director, Marco Garcés, confirmed to have registered their interest in López with Wolves.
Garcés also explained the deal won’t be easy. Atlántico provide more insights on that.
The Spanish club have identified the Wolves player as their priority target for the attacking midfield position. López has a desire to return to his old club and although this is a plus, Celta Vigo face multiple challenges to bring him back.
It’s claimed López will be a ‘lucrative signing’ and making him fit into their salary cap will be challenging. They could manage by selling Tadeo Allende and Luca de la Torre, on loan at Inter Miami and San Diego FC respectively.
Celta Vigo won’t be able to afford to pay his current wages at Molineux. They are looking for Wolves to cover a large part of his salary.
These are the two challenges and the third is that the Spanish club have 25 slots filled. Atlántico explains they can overcome this by registering López as a reserve team player.
In short, Wolves have to make a huge effort for Celta Vigo to sign López on loan. He may need to push for a transfer in January.
