John McGinn’s injury has sparked Aston Villa into ‘making enquiries’ for Bologna’s Jonathan Rowe once again.
Corriere di Bologna, and journalist Marco Vigarani, report on the Bologna forward today, urging the club to resist any potential bids.
Aston Villa Enquiries
The journalist argues that, with a potential €80m worth of sales this summer once defender Jhon Lucumí departs as expected, there is no need to sell Jonathan Rowe this summer.
That’s despite the obvious temptation in doing so. He believes the Italian side must now learn to resists having succumbed to temptation in the past when it comes to players.
Indeed, he thinks that Bologna are ‘more vulnerable than ever’ to such temptations. And the latest could come from Aston Villa. According to him, they have been ‘alarmed’ by John McGinn’s injury and are now ‘making enquiries’ for Rowe.
The 23-year-old is a long-term target for Aston Villa, with reports throughout this summer having linked them with a move. A report back in May indicated that a deal could be advancing.
Aston Villa Return
That has died down over the last few months, with Aston Villa instead signing Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea. But McGinn’s injury this week has, reportedly, led to enquiries being made.
Vigarani also hints that Rowe’s agents are hard at work. He urges Bologna to nip their efforts – which have this week seen the forward offers to Türkiye – in the bud. The hint is that they want a move and are working on it. Aston Villa making enquiries would only be of interest to them.
The question is whether Aston Villa will want to pay what Bologna want. They’ve already rejected a €35m offer from Everton, but reports have since indicated €45m could see them waver. They had held out for €50m plus but that feels more like posturing than anything else.
Indeed, Vigarani’s comments here hint as much. He is certainly of the belief that Bologna will fold if Aston Villa or others get serious. For now, the Villans seem to be limiting themselves to enquiries.
