Ajax want to offer Wolverhampton Wanderers‘ Tolu Arokodare a permanent escape route, after signing him on loan from the Championship side in the summer window
The striker’s performances for KRC Genk had convinced Wolves to sign him in September 2025. However, he wasn’t able to replicate his Jupiler Pro League form in the Premier League.
Last season, he managed six goals and two assists from three goals and assists were in the league. Following the Molineux club’s relegation, new manager César Peixoto left him out of his core plans this season.
The pair even clashed during a pre-season training session. Towards the end of July, the 25-year-old joined the Eredivisie side on a season-long loan deal.
Wolves man’s good start at Ajax
The Nigeria international has put the Wolves disappointment behind him and has starred for the Dutch club. He scored nine goals and contributed three assists from 14 matches so far.
Earlier this month, he explained how he’s enjoying life with the Amsterdam club and aims to win “everything” with them.
He said: “It’s been pretty good. It’s been lovely, it’s been amazing. The Dutch people have been amazing… My teammates have been great. The club has been outstanding.”
It’s not just Tolu Arokodare but Ajax are also happy with his performances and Africa Foot covers their plan for his future.
Work ongoing to end Wolves spell
As a part of the loan, the Dutch club have agreed a purchase option with César Peixoto’s side. It looks like the former are in a rush to make his stay permanent as Africa Foot now states they have started negotiations with Wolves.
Sources close to the Nigeria international have informed the outlet about this as Ajax are working behind the scenes to finalise the permanent transfer. His camp is not opposed to this move.
Ajax, for their part, have no intention of offering more than €25m. The English club are open to letting Tolu Arokodare leave permanently but are demanding a higher fee.
There’s no confirmation about the fee needed to exercise the purchase option. If this report is to be believed, it won’t be wrong to assume the purchase clause is higher than the aforementioned figure.
With all parties keen on a permanent move, there could be developments if the two clubs can find a compromise.
