Finally, some concrete updates from Brazil regarding Guido Rodríguez’s situation at West Ham. And it looks like the midfielder is about to leave in the next few days.
According to Brazilian journalist Eduardo Picão, Grêmio and Rodríguez have already reached a full verbal agreement on personal terms. The Brazilian club now want the move done immediately and are offering €3m (£2.5m) to West Ham to release the Argentine ahead of schedule, rather than waiting for his contract to expire.
That lines up with other reports in Brazil stating that Rodríguez has already said “yes” to Grêmio’s project. Behind the scenes, the midfielder approved the sporting plan presented by the club. He also felt comfortable with manager Luís Castro’s methods. Familiarity with the technical setup is said to have weighed heavily in his decision.
There is also an extra angle involving Grêmio’s coaching department. Local outlet Zero Hora, arguably the most reliable source from Southern clubs (such as Grêmio) in Brazil, reports that a specific member of the staff has a strong relationship with a senior West Ham executive. That link is helping smooth talks as negotiations move forward.
West Ham timing makes sense
If it goes through, from West Ham’s point of view, the timing makes sense. Rodríguez is in the final months of his contract and has struggled for minutes since arriving in mid-2024. With limited involvement and a high salary, the Premier League side may see value in taking even a minor fee now.
All the outlets, however, are pointing in the same direction. Guido is only waiting for the two clubs to reach an agreement, so he can leave as soon as possible.
With the player aligned, money on the table and momentum building, West Ham now face a clear choice. Either they agree to an €3m (£2.5m) exit in January or keep Rodríguez until the end of the season and receive no fee at all.
