Nottingham Forest have enquired about Fenerbahçe midfielder Fred as they look to strengthen this month.
That’s according to well connected journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, via Fener Ajans. He reports that Nottingham Forest have made an enquiry about the Brazilian.
Nottingham Forest seem keen to reshape their squad this month to better suit Sean Dyche’s needs. Reports in England have indicated he’s won something of a transfer battle with director of football Edu on that front.
One of the big changes may be in midfield. They are reportedly in negotiations to potentially send Douglas Luiz back to Juventus early from his loan. He joined in the summer but has barely featured since then.
Nottingham Forest have made it clear he’s not a part of their plans and that’s led Juventus to worry. They fear that Luiz will be completely devalued by the summer transfer window. Bringing him back now could help avoid that and it appears to be under consideration.
If he were to depart, Nottingham Forest would need a replacement. Perhaps that is why they are making enquiries about Fred’s situation now.
Nottingham Forest reply isn’t known yet
There’s no indication of how Fenerbahce have responded to the request from Nottingham Forest as yet. The 32-year-old played for Manchester United from 2018 to 2023, appearing under multiple managers.
He probably wasn’t as appreciated as he should have been at Old Trafford and would likely be a valuable addition to their squad even today. Quickly after moving to Turkey, Fred made himself an important player in Istanbul and has been well liked during his time at Fenerbahce.
The Turkish side seem open to deals for their players this month, subsequently there’s every chance the Brazilian is one they’ll let go. We’ll wait for more information before getting excited on Nottingham Forest’s behalf, though.
