Rangers have come to the rescue and saved Andreas Skov Olsen from a miserable time in Germany football. He’s secured a move to Ibrox, having not had the impact anyone hoped for at VfL Wolfsburg.
The Bundesliga side bought Skov Olsen because of what they’d seen in the 23/24 campaign. During that season, he played 50 matches for Club Brugge. Across those games he scored an impressive 26 goals and added eight assists.
Danny Röhl has been happy to provide an escape route at Rangers for the Dane. Ahead of the move, there’s been some snipes sent from Germany this week, with the media there wanting to push home the angle of Skov Olsen being a flop.
Bild, Germany’s biggest newspaper, said the following earlier this week: ‘This misunderstanding proved costly. A year ago, VfL Wolfsburg signed Danish striker Andreas Skov Olsen (26) from Club Brugge for a hefty €14m. His contract ran until 2029! But Skov Olsen was a complete flop. He never established himself as a regular starter, scoring only three goals and providing one assist in a total of 32 appearances.’
Tipsbladet report, from sources likely close to the player, that Skov Olsen has passed a Rangers medical. He’s signed a loan deal until the summer, with the chance of a permanent stay at Ibrox.
Rangers announcement tonight
Rangers can make the transfer permanent via a pre-agreed clause. Tipsbladet report the clause is worth €10m, with potential bonuses on top of that. In addition, VfL Wolfsburg would also be entitled to a percentage if Rangers go on to sell for a profit.
Rangers are set to present their latest signing on Friday evening, according to the Danish source. Everything is completed, and it’s only the announcement which is pending.
Even without out that, Skov Olsen is now part of Danny Röhl’s squad at Rangers, at least for the rest of this season.
