Djurgårdens IF’s Bo Hegland is happy to find out about Newcastle United and Barcelona monitoring him, although insists there isn’t anything concrete yet.
The 22-year-old left Moss FK for the Swedish club in July 2025 and had a tough start.
His form has improved a lot this year, and that has seen him attract interest from Newcastle United, Barcelona and other clubs.
The attacking midfielder has eight goals and 15 assists from 22 league matches this year.
His last assist was in his side’s 2-0 win over Gais, and with that, he equalled Allsvenskan’s record assist tally.
Newcastle United already sent officials
Bo Hegland registered two assists in Djurgårdens IF’s 4-0 home win over Mjällby AIF on August 31st.
Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered a report from Sweden that the Magpies scouted him during this clash.
On September 5th, he didn’t rule out a move when pointed out about Newcastle United monitoring him.
He said: “Honestly, I haven’t thought too much about that. I’ve just been 100% focused on playing at Djurgårdens IF, and that’s what I’m doing. Of course, it’s great that people are watching, but my focus is on developing in the Allsvenskan and becoming an even better player.”
We then relayed news of Barcelona joining Matthias Jaissle’s side in watching the attacker live from the stands.
No concrete advances from Newcastle United
Norway U21 manager Jan Peder Jalland has included Bo Hegland in his squad for this international break.
This gave TV2 an opportunity to interview the player, where they pointed out Barcelona and Newcastle United interest.
“When it is so far from anything concrete, it is cool to read, but you just have to focus on what you can do something about. I enjoy playing at Djurgården and feel that it suits me well in most areas,” he said.
He was asked whether it affects his confidence that clubs like Barcelona are monitoring him.
“It is a big compliment that people are following. It is a sign that you are doing well. I don’t see it as anything other than a big compliment,” Hegland explained.
The player says the attention he has received because of his displays is “unusual”. He takes it as a compliment and remains focused on continuing his development.
Hegland has a contract at Djurgårdens IF until December 2029. Should he continue his good run, more clubs are likely to join Newcastle United and Barca in the transfer chase.
