Rangers‘ Badredine Bouanani hasn’t enjoyed a good start under Derek McInnes since arriving at Ibrox on loan with VfB Stuttgart on deadline day.

The 21-year-old spent his playing career in France until he left OGC Nice for Stuttgart last summer. He managed two goals and two assists from 1,002 minutes from 28 matches in his debut season.

Manager Sebastian Hoeneß left him out of his plans this season. Therefore, the German club let him join Rangers on loan with an option to buy.

The winger started in the 1-0 win over St. Mirren at Ibrox on his debut and that has been his only start for McInnes’ side. Since then, he’s played 36 minutes from three matches.

Impact of Rangers situation

Prior to moving to Ibrox, the French-born Algeria international didn’t feature for Stuttgart this season. The restricted role meant Fennecs manager Brahim Hemdani left him out of the squad for the last international break.

Badredine Bouanani has made only four appearances for Rangers and DZ Foot in Algeria analyse his time in Glasgow so far.

Derek McInnes has limited him to a backup role and there’s belief his situation at Rangers ‘isn’t improving’. This is ‘increasingly worrying’ for the player and the Bundesliga side.

The latter were hoping the loan move to Ibrox will be an important step for the player to enjoy regular minutes. He needs this to continue his development.

DZ Foot states the attacker’s situation in Glasgow is also ‘starting to have repercussions’ with the national team. Hemdani may not consider him in November if McInnes doesn’t utilise him in the coming weeks.

This is also concerning for Stuttgart because Rangers may decide against exercising the purchase clause.

The repercussions of a limited role are severe. Bouanani can’t continue his development and represent his country regularly, and a permanent move to Ibrox becomes unlikely.

Why Rangers summer signing has hope

Findlay Curtis has been the first-choice right winger for Derek McInnes this season. He played 614 minutes from 14 matches and is yet to score or assist for Rangers.

The Ibrox manager has also utilised left winger Min-su Kim occasionally on the right wing. He is also yet to open his account. This should give Badredine Bouanani hope of getting minutes to showcase his qualities.

However, the Rangers signing has to first impress the manager in training and grab any opportunity to immediately impress on the pitch. Otherwise, it’s going to be an uphill task for him.
