Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer says there are no immediate plans to sign Manchester City‘s Erling Haaland, but left the door open for a future move.
The striker spent over two years at Borussia Dortmund and left them for Manchester City in 2022.
He has starred for the Premier League side, scoring 170 goals and contributing 30 assists from 206 games. The 26-year-old was part of Pep Guardiola’s squad that won the treble in his debut season.
Enzo Maresca replaced Guardiola in the summer and Haaland continued to star under the Italian, managing eight goals so far.
Won’t close door on signing Manchester City star
In the summer, the frontman starred for his national team at the World Cup. During the tournament, his father, Alf-Inge Haaland, spoke to RMC Sport, and discussed the possibility of a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
At that time, he said: “I don’t know. Time will tell, but nothing is impossible. I don’t know. PSG are a fantastic club, and I wish them all the best. They’re coming off two incredible seasons with those two Champions League titles.”
There have been no reports of the Norway international wanting to leave or about Bayern Munich’s interest. However, that didn’t stop Bild TV asking Herbert Hainer about possibly signing Erling Haaland for the Bundesliga winners. Sport1 have relayed his comments.
“With Michael Olise, Harry Kane, and Luis Díaz, we have an excellent attack. We scored over 100 goals last season and are very well positioned offensively,” he said.
Manchester City attacker can be option for future
Harry Kane turned 33 in July and Luis Díaz will turn 30 next January. Therefore, Vincent Kompany’s side must plan to replace the duo in the coming years.
“If we were talking about a timeframe in a few years, we would reassess the situation,” Herbert Hainer explained.
Erling Haaland has a contract at the Etihad until 2034. The possibility of taking him away from the Citizens could arise soon, after the Premier League sanctioned Manchester City for breaching their financial rules between 2009 and 2018.
While Enzo Maresca’s side have lodged an appeal, there are possibilities for Manchester City stars, including the former BVB man, to leave the Etihad. The Bayern Munich top boss is aware of it.
Hainer concludes: “I don’t know the details and have no insider knowledge. That’s why I don’t want to speculate about it. The fact is: if that’s what happened, consequences must be drawn.”
