Manchester United are giving serious thought about replacing Michael Carrick with Antonio Conte, after a poor start to the season.

The Premier League side have failed to beat Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in the league despite the latter two going down to 10-men. The Citizens walked away from Old Trafford with three points while Spurs settled for a point at the weekend.

Manchester United have only one win after six league matches. They are now 13th in the table, trailing fourth placed Brentford by four points.

The Red Devils are also out of the EFL Cup after losing the third-round tie to Brighton & Hove Albion. Apart from the league win, their only other victory was against Sabah in the Champions League a month ago.

Since then, Carrick’s side have lost two and drawn two and are yet to win an away match this season.

Antonio Conte has been without a job since leaving Napoli at the end of last season. He is keen on replacing Michael Carrick at Old Trafford.

On September 23rd, Sport Witness covered a report from Italy explaining that Manchester United made initial contact to assess his availability.

Calciomercato.it, who covered this report, have now come up with a fresh update. The 57-year-old recently talked about what he wants from his next club.

“I dream of a club that has lost sight of its history,” he said. After relaying his comments, Calciomercato.it covers about Manchester United’s plan.

The English club are ‘seriously considering sacking’ Carrick and replacing him with Conte. If that happens, the Italian ‘would gladly accept a call’ from Manchester United. The outlet adds the negotiations between the two parties could begin at the start of this week.

Agreement close with Manchester United

Italian journalist Enzo Bucchioni, writing in his column for TuttoMercatoWeb, shares a bold update about Antonio Conte and Manchester United.

He states: “Meanwhile, for the record and for all Juventus fans (there are many) still hoping for Antonio Conte’s return, the former Juventus manager is reaching an agreement with Manchester United, who have had a poor start to the Premier League season…”

The Italian has the experience of managing in England from his time at Chelsea (2016-18) and Tottenham Hotspur (November 2021-March 2023).

Manchester United may have made an initial contact with Conte. There’s a possibility of those close to the manager using the Italian media to create a hype around him. That’s been the case previously and this is following a similar pattern.

Either way, there’s likely to be more reports linking other managers if the Red Devils don’t improve their results in the coming days and weeks.
