Wolverhampton Wanderers‘ Ladislav Krejčí has shared a positive fitness update while with the Czech Republic for the international break.

On August 8th, the centre-back played six minutes in Wolves’ EFL Cup win over Porte Vale and then missed three league matches in a row over a fitness concern.

The 27-year-old started in the next two Championship matches and the EFL Cup defeat to Everton.

Last weekend, a calf injury forced him to miss the 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion. César Peixoto had confirmed this and was unsure whether he would play for his country.

Wolves player making progress

The national team were concerned about the defender’s setback but that didn’t stop him from joining the camp earlier this week.

Three days ago, Sport Witness covered a report from the Czech media about Ladislav Krejčí not training with the group.

However, the former Girona man has continued with the Czech Republic, who take on Croatia on Saturday. Their manager Santi Denia and the Wolves player attended the pre-match press conference today and inFotbal have relayed his comments.

The outlet points that Krejčí joined the national team with an injury and now provides a positive update. He said: “I feel good.”

Wolves star is the captain

Ladislav Krejčí had captained the national team at the World Cup under Miroslav Koubek’s orders.

Two months ago, the Czech Republic appointed Santi Denia as Koubek’s successor, and the Spaniard became the first foreigner to manage the senior team.

Denia confirmed the Wolves defender will continue to wear the armband.

“We know that we have a long way to go, not everything can be changed from day one. We are looking forward to the future, to the process. I know that it will be for more than a month or a year. We perceive the path that the federation has taken very positively,” Krejčí explained.

Peixoto & co. to monitor defender

The Czech Republic will play four UEFA Nations League matches against Croatia, England [twice] and Spain in less than two weeks, starting tomorrow.

Wolves can only hope Ladislav Krejčí doesn’t make the injury worse or pick up a fresh setback. He’s been reconfirmed as national captain after the squad was consulted, and perhaps this is why he’s pushing himself for these matches.

Although the player said he’s feeling good, César Peixoto and Wolves will closely monitor him while on international duty.
