Wolverhampton Wanderers had been keeping an eye on Yuri Alberto for a while. And the link made plenty of sense at the time.
Vítor Pereira was still in charge, Wolves needed goals, and the Brazilian striker was someone the coach trusted from their Corinthians days.
That angle has now collapsed. Pereira is out, the club remain stuck in a rough Premier League campaign, and the race for the 24-year-old has suddenly become far more expensive, as per Bolavip.
Brazilian reporter Luis Fabiani revealed that Roma offered €30m (£25.4m) for Yuri Alberto on the final day of the European window. Corinthians turned it down because they only own 50% of his rights and were under a transfer ban. That stopped them from seeking a replacement. However, Roma is preparing a new approach.
The Italian side may now be ahead of everyone. Local pundit Neto went as far as saying the striker is unlikely to stay in Brazil for 2026: “He’s leaving next year. It will be Roma. I don’t know if it will be €30m. It could reach €40m.”
The story claims several English clubs are expected to explore the situation again. But that creates a clear picture for Wolves.
They had been quietly monitoring Yuri Alberto, hoping their former manager could help lure him to England. Instead, they now find themselves watching from a distance as Roma position themselves for a bigger move, and the price climbs far beyond what Wolves explored in the past.
Whether they re-enter the race or simply move on, the momentum has shifted firmly towards Serie A.
