Roberto Fernandez has been told he’ll be at Manchester City next year if he keeps up his goalscoring record. The 22-year-old has scored five goals in five La Liga games so far this season.
During the last campaign, the youngster found the back of the net seven times over 44 games. He’s clearly kicked on since then. Born in Andalusia, Fernandez spent his time at several youth academies across Spain, before moving to Braga.
He left the Portuguese club for Espanyol in ’25, and things are going well this season. Braga are due 50% of any transfer fee for the Spain U21 forward. That appears to be a clause which will bring them a boost in the future.
What’s being said about Manchester City
Obviously, Roberto Fernandez is the talk of Espanyol right now. The Barcelona club face Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday evening, and today was manager Manolo González’s press conference.
Fernandez was the theme for much of it, and Manchester City were referenced when the five goals in five achievement was mentioned.

González said: “If Roberto achieves this goal average, and this is his true potential, he’ll be at Manchester City next year. It’s not normal for a top-flight striker to score in every game; maybe now he goes two or three games without scoring and we’ll say he’s playing very badly. What Roberto is doing right now is very, very difficult.
“”If they want to sign Roberto and five more players in the winter transfer window, it means we’ve done things well. If they want to sign 10 players at the end of the season, it means things have been done very, very well. What worries me is that he continues to play at his level.”
One for Manchester City, and others, to keep an eye on.
