The City Group intervened this summer when Sverre Nypan looked destined to head to the Netherlands from Manchester City.

They have been speaking on Omrop Fryslân’s Sportcast, detailing how the City Group intervened and ruined their plans.
“We spoke with him, and so did you, though I think he spoke to a great many people,” said Hansma regarding Nypan, who ended up at Lommel, another City Group football club.
“The City Group obviously has a huge pool of players who can play not just in Manchester but for other teams as well. There are some very interesting prospects among them for loan deals. Sverre Nypan was one of them.”
“Eventually, we heard he was likely to choose Heerenveen, partly because they’ve had many Scandinavians there who had already proven themselves in the Eredivisie,” added Lambooij.

Lommel instead
However, the Norwegian ultimately ended up at Lommel. According to Hansma, the City Group played a major role in that choice.
“Eventually, we heard he was likely to choose Heerenveen, partly because they’ve had many Scandinavians there who had already proven themselves in the Eredivisie,” he concluded.
It now remains to be seen what happens with Nypan moving forwards. Manchester City paid big for him in 2025 with a €15m deal to sign him from Rosenborg.
But despite that investment, he is still awaiting his official debut for Manchester City. The plan appears to be to send him out on loan as much as possible. Last year saw him at Middlesbrough and now he’s at Lommel. Further deals feel likely.
Perhaps, then, that the two Netherlands teams will get their shot at some point after clearly being frustrated this summer.
