Lucas Perri could be on the move again, with Brazilian newspaper O Dia relaying reports from L’Équipe and then adding that Leeds United and Newcastle United are both interested in signing the Lyon goalkeeper this summer.
The French club could sell Perri to a Premier League club for €20-23m in the coming days, reports L’Equipe in their Monday edition, without naming the club involved. Perri is seen as one of the players Lyon are willing to cash in on during this transfer window.
Leeds are preparing for their return to the top flight and are actively looking to strengthen between the posts. Illan Meslier had an inconsistent campaign, and Karl Darlow briefly took over during the run-in.
The club are targeting a more stable and experienced figure to handle the demands of the Premier League. Other names linked include Aaron Ramsdale, Nick Pope, and Torino’s Vanja Milinković-Savić.
Newcastle, on the other hand, are planning for long-term succession. Nick Pope remains first choice but is approaching the final year of his contract, and the Magpies want to reinforce the position ahead of another season with European commitments.
Their priority target is Burnley’s James Trafford, but Perri is now being considered as a viable alternative or potential rotation option.
The Premier League duo, however, are not alone in the race. According to the Brazilian press, newly-promoted Saudi Pro League side Neom have also expressed interest in Perri, while AS Monaco are seen as a domestic option in Ligue 1.
The 26-year-old joined them from Botafogo in January but ended the season as second choice behind Anthony Lopes.
Still, O Dia note that since both Lyon and Botafogo are part of John Textor’s football group, the payment could be used internally to help Lyon meet financial obligations, including the €100m required to overturn the club’s administrative relegation in France.
The player’s next steps now depend on whether the English clubs follow through with formal offers.
