Manchester United were in the picture to sign a new left-back in the summer but couldn’t land a player for that position. Failure to do that has impacted the ongoing campaign but the Red Devils could look to change that.
As things stand, Luke Shaw is the only out-and-out senior left-back option for Michael Carrick’s side. Patrick Dorgu’s best position has still not been ascertained and Harry Amass isn’t seen as a fit for the senior team just yet.
But Manchester United will play in the Champions League and soon, games will come thick and fast.
There are signs they could go in for a left-back soon enough.
Uncertainty over Raum’s future
Gazzetta dello Sport look at Leipzig full-back David Raum’s situation at the German club.
They bring Juventus into the picture, as the Bianconeri could need a left-back in January. Andrea Cambiaso is injured and Juan Cabal has been excluded from the project too. This has left Zeki Celik as their left-back, when he was originally a right-back.
This has left Juve assessing the market for a left-back. Raum’s profile is in the running but there are fears Manchester United could come calling.
While he is the Leipzig captain, there is uncertainty over his future at the club. His current deal runs out in the summer of 2027 and there is no guarantee he signs a new deal.
Juve fear Manchester United can take advantage of the scenario and they’re the ‘main competition’ in the chase.
Our take: Deal could be cost-effective
The 28-year-old has been a regular contributor for goals from left-back over the last few seasons for the East German side. In the 2025/26 campaign, he racked up seven assists and three goals, which is quite impressive for a left-back.
Raum is also currently in his prime and could be available for a very accessible price. He is also increasingly becoming a leader, which will come in very handy for Manchester United.
While Juve are in the chase, financial capacity could hand an advantage to the Old Trafford club.
