Arsenal have keen interest in signing Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba this summer.
William Saliba and Jurriën Timber’s injuries have seen the Premier League winners look for a new defender.
Arsenal have identified Barcelona’s Jules Koundé as a target, without making further advances. He can operate as both as a right-back and the heart of the defence.
Arsenal also looked at Germany
The Gunners’ list also includes Bayer Leverkusen’s Jarell Quansah and Edmond Tapsoba.
Bayer have already ruled out selling Quansah and Africa Foot now cover the latest on the north London club’s interest in Tapsoba.
The centre-back joined the Bundesliga side in 2020 and has been a regular, playing 270 matches, of which 44 were from last season.
Mikel Arteta’s side particularly appreciate his profile and experience at the highest level.
Complicated signing for Arsenal
The 27-year-old’s entourage have confirmed to Africa Foot that Arsenal are interested. It won’t be easy for the English champions to snatch him away from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
In May, Sport Witness relayed news that Chelsea seriously considered signing the Burkina Faso international. Xabi Alonso has previously managed him at the German club. However, the Blues haven’t made advances so far.
Africa Foot mentions Chelsea when covering the latest on Arsenal. Their title says Bayer Leverkusen ‘shut the door’ on Edmond Tapsoba’s departure.
In April, the defender signed a new contract until 2031, and this put his club in a strong position for negotiations. In fact, they have no intention of letting him leave and if there’s a transfer, Bayer Leverkusen want substantial, without a mention of a figure.
Arsenal also have to offer a tempting proposal, both in terms of sporting and financial, to lure the player away from Bayer Leverkusen.
Although Tapsoba’s entourage confirms interest, the Gunners are unlikely to make further advances this summer.
That’s because Mikel Arteta’s side are closing in on signing Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa, which Africa Foot haven’t taken into account.
