Real Betis are set for a major windfall if Como’s Assane Diao ends up joining Everton this summer.
Thursday’s print edition of Diario de Sevilla reports that the Spanish side are set for a big pay off in the potential €60m move, should it end up happening.
Real Betis can receive an ‘unexpected financial boost’ during this transfer window thanks to their former player.
20% equals €12m payment
They’ve already received a similar boost this summer, netting around €7m from Nobel Mendy’s move to Hull City. They still owned a percentage of his rights and so, were paid handsomely when that deal was finalised.
Now they could do the same with Assane Diao. Reports have linked Everton with a potential move for him. Any deal could be worth as much as €60m.
That would benefit Betis, who still hold a 20% stake in Diao’s rights. So, if he were to leave for €60m, they would pocket €12m. That’s a figure which is comparable to the one they sold him for in January 2025.
No departure is imminent at this stage, but it is a possibility. And the possibility of a big move happening late in the window has Betis rubbing their hands. They could be set for a major profit on a player who left more than a year ago.
Waiting on Everton
Of course, it all depends on Everton – or another club – moving for the 20-year-old late in the window. For now, the Toffees have just been making enquiries.
There are still doubts about Iliman Ndiaye’s future. He may have turned down a move to Saudi Arabia, but there could still be suitors in the Premier League. Should he leave, he would need replacing before the window shuts.
Betis still holding a percentage also explains why Como have set their asking price so high. Diao is valued at €30m by the likes of Transfermarkt and coming off a disappointing season hindered by injuries.
Como asking for €60m seemed ludicrous at first, but with €12m of that going to Betis, it now makes sense.
