Newcastle United‘s Sean Steur is enjoying life with the Premier League side as he looks to strengthen certain areas to further improve his game.

The 18-year-old graduated from Ajax’s academy and played 26 matches for their first team. That was enough to convince the Magpies to bet on him in the summer window.

Newcastle United completed his signing in July, when Eddie Howe was still in charge. The manager had played a key role in the midfielder’s arrival and left St. James’ Park later that month.

Matthias Jaissle took charge in August, and the midfielder has played in every fixture this season, 291 minutes from seven matches. This has helped him make his debut for the Netherlands U21s during the recently concluded international break.

Sean Steur made his debut against Norway last month and said he doesn’t want to get carried away. He then played the full 90 minutes in Jong Oranje’s victories over Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

After the 4-0 win over the latter on Tuesday, FcUpdate caught up with the Newcastle United player to discuss a few topics. We focus on his comments related to the Tyneside club.

The teenager is excited about returning to the Premier League side after representing the Netherlands.

“I’m heading back to England on Thursday, which I’m really looking forward to. I’m just having a brilliant time there and I can’t wait to go back,” he said.

The Dutchman also explained how he’s adjusting to the new life off the pitch.

Steur explained: “My parents try to visit as often as possible, but I’m a bit more on my own and independent now. Apart from that, it’s a really nice neighbourhood, with friendly people. I’ve actually got everything I need, so I can’t complain.”

Newcastle United signing wants to improve further

A section of the Dutch media had questioned teenager’s decision to leave the Eredivisie side for the Magpies. A few blamed those close to him, while others felt this step came too soon.

However, Sean Steur thinks otherwise while admitting there’s still room to improve his game.

“Definitely. As I just said: there’s plenty of room for improvement. But I’m happy with how things are going so far. I need to keep that up and I just have to keep getting better,” he added.

On areas to improve, Steur said: “Things are going well, but physically I could be better. On the ball, everything could actually be much better. I don’t think I’m at my best yet. So I’m looking forward to developing that.”
