Newcastle United midfielder Sean Steur has insisted he isn’t getting ahead of himself, after making his debut for the Netherlands’ U21 side.
The 18-year-old made his first appearance for the Dutch youth side this week in a 0-0 draw with Norway U21’s.
It was the latest step forward for the youngster, who has had a busy few months, to say the least.
Not only did he join Newcastle in a big money move in the summer, but he is also now a regular for Matthias Jaissle’s side in the Premier League.
Those performances have already earned him plenty of attention, with Michael Reiziger lavishing praise on him in comments covered by Sport Witness.
International debut
Now he’s an international – well a youth international anyway – but it seems he’s not letting that get to his head just yet.
“Making my debut is nice, but that’s not really what’s on my mind right now,” the Newcastle midfielder told Sportniuews.
“It was a brief substitute appearance. You try to play everything forward. I think I managed to do that a few times.”
Newcastle adaptation
The youngster is now planning to use the international break to spend time with his family, although he insists that’s not due to homesickness.
“They try to come over sometimes, too. But now I’m going home for a day to make the most of it. I feel very much at home there. I’m happy there,” he added.
While adaptation to Newcastle has seemingly been a simple process, there’s been one major hurdle to overcome. It appears that he hasn’t convinced any of his new teammates on his particular taste in music.
He has already tried introducing the Volendam ‘eel sound’ in the dressing room.
“Well, to one person. He told me never to do it again. He clearly wasn’t a fan,” he admitted, refusing to name the Newcastle player in particular, perhaps to ensure dressing room harmony.
