tWolverhampton Wanderers defender David Møller Wolfe has revealed how Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard supported him after learning he’d been dropped for the 3-2 win over Denmark.
The Wolves defender has been speaking to the media after that game in which he was sent off in the 94th minute.
Norway beat the Danes 3-2 on Thursday, with goals from Oscar Bobb and Erling Haaland (two) helping them to all three points in the Nations League. Mikkel Damsgaard and Rasmus Hojlund scored for the away side.
Disappointment
Wolfe started the game on the bench for Norway but came on in the second half, for what would be a memorable cameo. The referee showed him two yellow cards leading to a red card in the 94th minute.
It capped off what had been a disappointing evening, starting with him sitting on the bench.
“Of course, I want to play every game, but I’m not someone who dwells on things like that. Now I want to try to bounce back,” he said.
“Yes, of course. Everyone wants to play,” he added when asked if he was disappointed to be left out initially.
Ødegaard support
He then explained how the Arsenal captain had encouraged him in the lead up to the game.
“He’s a fantastic leader who has been really great with me. He’s talked to me a lot. I appreciate that enormously,” he admitted about the Arsenal midfielder.
The Wolves defender is also playing down the importance of his sending off. He simply thinks that he was unlucky.
“I think I came on and brought some good energy to the team,” he said.
“I was a bit clumsy and unlucky with the two yellow cards, which unfortunately rule me out of the next match. That’s the frustrating part.
“For the second yellow card, I had so little time to think. I felt it was the right thing to do. I didn’t have control over what was happening behind me.”
