Bournemouth could get another shot at signing Rubén Vargas in January, with Sevilla now preparing to cash in on the Switzerland international.
Looks like the Cherries already tried twice for Vargas during the summer. Sevilla stood firm then, but their financial situation could make the winter window rather different.
The Spanish club reportedly want €18-20m (£15.6-17.3m) for the winger. There is also plenty of Premier League competition building around him.
Sevilla now preparing Vargas sale
Spain’s Orgullo Biri report that Sevilla have picked Vargas as the player who can bring in much-needed money in January.
In that context, they say Bournemouth made offers worth €9.5m (£8.2m) and €10m (£8.7m) during the summer. Both were rejected.
That’s important news and of course it sounds like a bargain, but Sevilla are now looking considerably higher. Their target is said to be somewhere between €18m (£15.6m) and €20m (£17.3m).
That would still represent some excellent business of course. Especially considering Vargas arrived from Augsburg for just €2.5m (£2.2m) in January 2025 and has a contract until 2029.

There are more English clubs around now. Orgullo Biri say Leeds United, Sunderland and Crystal Palace have all made enquiries at some point.
Also, Villarreal made a €15m (£13m) attempt in August 2025, according to the latest report. Olympiacos are credited with an €8m (£6.9m) offer too.

January could be different for Bournemouth
The big change here is Sevilla’s willingness to do business. They need room in their finances and want to strengthen at centre-back. The report says the money raised from Vargas would go towards signing a first-choice defender.
That gives Bournemouth more encouragement than they had during the summer.
Vargas is currently recovering from a knee problem which has kept him out since mid-August. He has played just 20 minutes across Sevilla’s first seven league matches.
His stock remains high after an impressive World Cup with Switzerland. The 27-year-old scored against Canada, provided two assists and was named man of the match against Bosnia.
The winger is also said to want Champions League football, which could become a factor if several clubs move in January.
For Bournemouth, the asking price has clearly gone up from their summer bids. The difference is that Sevilla now appear to actually want the sale.
