Birmingham City star August Priske has admitted he was left baffled by a Wolves fan mocking him on social media.

The striker has found himself as part of an unconventional competition this season in the Championship.

Earlier this season a Wolves fan launched a campaign comparing Priske to Raúl Jiménez. His bet was that the Wolves striker would end up scoring more than the Birmingham City striker this season.

The content creator has been posting videos on TikTok, keeping a tally of who scores more, and largely spending his time mocking Priske.

These videos have now reached the Birmingham City striker and inside the Blues’ dressing room. And he admits he’s not a big fan of what’s been going on.

“Yeah, I’ve seen it. We’ve actually talked about it a few times at the club. I’ve just been granted ‘naming rights,’ as they call it,” he told BOLD.

“I used to be called an ‘NPC,’ but now I’ve been allowed to go by the name ‘August,’.”

What is an NPC?

For those that don’t know, NPC stands for non-player character. It is a term from video games to describe someone who is an extra, or a character lacking a leading role.

Those with a harsher dictionary would label the character as a nobody. It is unlikely it has been used in an endearing manner in regard to Priske.

As for why August Priske specifically ended up with that label, he isn’t entirely sure himself.

“No, I honestly don’t know. He’s the one who came up with it, after all. He’s a Wolves fan, of course, so he just wanted to take a little dig at me,” he added.

“He was so certain that Raúl Jiménez would end up scoring the most goals. So, we’ll have to see how things stand at the end of the season.”

English banter to be expected

The content creator has since admitted he regrets the whole campaign, perhaps because Priske is banging in the goals while Jiménez is out injured.

“Yeah, well… he’s in a bit of trouble now, isn’t he?” Priske joked.

“That’s just England for you. It’s an incredible football culture, everyone is obsessed with the game. It’s all they watch; it’s football, 24/7. And honestly, that’s the best part. It’s especially true in the Championship.

“Wherever you play, there are at least 20,000 people screaming and shouting, and the facilities are generally quite good.”

The Wolves player is set to go under the knife this week to repair a damaged medial collateral ligament. His recovery is expected to take several months and he won’t be back until January.

That gives Priske the chance to get ahead.
