Arsenal star David Raya has admitted he would like to transfer to La Liga at some point, with a potential move to Real Madrid brought up.

The Arsenal goalkeeper has been playing in England since he was 16. That means he has never played in La Liga, or indeed, a national league outside of England.

He’s a name that remains somewhat out of the spotlight for the general Spanish public as a result; despite the fact he is now a leading goalkeeper in the Premier League.

Indeed, last year he won the Premier League, the World Cup and the Community Shield and reached the Champions League final after previously participating in the European Championships and the Nations League.

La Liga ambitions

That trophy haul is hard to match, and he’s now among the favourites for the Yashin Trophy. But at 31-years-old, he would like to add more to his growing cabinet. And he admits he’s love to play in La Liga at some point.

“Yes, I’d love to, I’d love to experience La Liga,” he told Marca.

“For now, I’m very happy here, but I would definitely like to try playing in the Spanish league. I think it’s a very competitive league. Perhaps, in the future, I could play for a Spanish club. I’m Spanish, and naturally, I’d love to play there.”

The interviewer then insisted that white ‘suits you well’. That was a reference to both his shirt and, Real Madrid. They, of course, are perhaps the most famous white shirts in the whole of football.

The Arsenal goalkeeper wasn’t getting into any suggestions, though. He instead simply laughed off the suggestion for the time being.

Real Madrid option

Real Madrid could be an option before he knows it, however. Madrid’s current number one, Thibaut Courtois, is now 34 years old. His contract expires next summer but is due to be extended by another year.

At that point he will be 37 years old, and perhaps the doors will be open for an even more experienced Raya to make his return home. For now, he just wants to win things with Arsenal.

“To win everything,” he concluded when asked what his goals are for this year.

“We want to establish ourselves as favourites, that’s our objective. Hopefully, we can improve on last season by lifting the Champions League trophy, though there’s still a long way to go for that.”
