Earlier on Saturday, Sport Witness reported how Tottenham youngster Souza had made a very positive impression at Porto this weekend.

The 20-year-old is currently on loan at the Portuguese side on loan from Tottenham. He’s yet to play for them competitively but has taken the first steps on that path this week.

He started, and impressed, in a friendly clash with Deportivo La Coruna. A Bola explained that the youngster had left those watching “drooling” with a display that was ‘the real deal’ and ‘at an excellent level’.

“Wonderful experience”

Those watching were certainly left impressed, and it seems Souza is more than happy with what he’s seen so far as well.

“I felt really good; I’m happy to make my debut in this beautiful, wonderful shirt. I want to highlight the squad, which is ready for the League matches and the return to competitive play,” he told Porto Canal.

It seems the Tottenham man is more than happy with the experience overall too, despite his lack of minutes to date.

“It’s been a wonderful experience, better than I expected. Everyone at FC Porto has welcomed me warmly and is helping me with the adaptation process. I just want to give something back,” he added.

Season focus

Tottenham

The focus now will be on getting into Porto’s first team for the remainder of the season. An impressive performance in this game is certainly a good start.

He’s in Portugal this season for a reason – to get the playing time that wasn’t going to be on offer under Roberto de Zerbi at Tottenham this season. The arrival of Andy Robertson in the summer meant competition was likely to see the youngster on the sidelines.

Now everything appears to be going well at Porto, at least if his comments are anything to go by. The hope will be to build on a friendly display that’s got everyone talking.
