Aston Villa have now joined the race for AC Milan star Rafael Leão and made an approach to sign him.

Jorge Mendes has been trying to place him in the Premier League this summer.

Sport Witness recently relayed news of the agent’s efforts to push him towards Chelsea and Manchester City.

However, the two clubs haven’t reacted, and Aston Villa have emerged as an option for the 27-year-old.

The forward has publicly talked about his desire to seek a new experience this season.

Sport Mediaset states Aston Villa are keen on signing him and have made initial contact with the Serie A side.

This summer, the Premier League side have held talks with the Rossoneri for Pervis Estupiñán and recently made an approach for Fikayo Tomori. The former won’t arrive and talks are ongoing for the centre-back.

Unai Emery’s side are also looking at Rafael Leão to strengthen their attack. They have contacted AC Milan, who want at least €50m to part ways with him.

Aston Villa in ongoing negotiations

Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio backs it up and covers the latest about Aston Villa’s efforts to sign the Portugal international this summer.

The player is ‘closer than ever’ to leaving the San Siro, and the Europa League winners can be his next destination. He’s on his way out of AC Milan and has opened the door to joining the English club.

Di Marzio adds the Villans have taken serious action as their negotiations with Ruben Amorim’s side are underway.

Jorge Mendes put these two clubs in touch and is actively involved in this operation. With the attacker opening the door, it shouldn’t be an issue for Aston Villa to agree personal terms.

Unai Emery’s side are in contact with Milan to reach an agreement for the transfer fee. In short, work in ongoing for total agreement with both the Serie A side and the player.

Last season, Rafael Leão managed 10 goals and an assist from 31 matches.
