Fikayo Tomori is on his way out of AC Milan and Aston Villa are actively pursuing his signature.

The centre-back was a regular in the 2025/26 campaign under Max Allegri but couldn’t stop Milan from finishing outside the top four. The Englishman’s weaknesses on the ball showed up, leading to Ruben Amorim excluding him from the new project.

Sport Witness have covered Coventry City’s interest in signing the defender. Tomori hadn’t opened up to that move, despite having worked with Frank Lampard during their time together at Chelsea.

Now, Aston Villa are firmly in the race for his signature.

Initial discussions ongoing

Thursday’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport reports Tomori will be a key outgoing for the Rossoneri. They have spent significantly on incomings and are now focused on sales before making more signings.

The newspaper reveal Aston Villa have enquired about the centre-back and see him as a replacement for Ezri Konsa. Tomori’s current deal at Milan runs out in 2027 and the Villans want to take advantage.

Gazzetta dello Sport’s Milan reporter Luca Bianchin adds more information.

Aston Villa are speaking to the Rossoneri, who demand a figure between €10m and €15m. Tomori is interested in a move to Villa Park, which is different to how he perceived a move to Coventry City.

At the same time, Unai Emery’s side also have other names on the shortlist and are yet to make a final decision.

Our take: Villans wise to look at other targets

Tomori will offer Premier League experience to Aston Villa but he has major weaknesses on the ball. He has also shown that playing in a higher defensive line isn’t a strength.

Even if a move would be cheap, he is now 28. While he could be a squad player, Tomori can’t be relied upon to start every game.

That is why Aston Villa are wise to look at other targets too, as they can sign players who are younger and better on the ball.
