Cristhian Mosquera left Valencia for Arsenal in the summer and has made eight appearances for the Premier League club so far.

The 21-year-old is currently with Spain’s U21 squad ahead of a match against Norway’s U21s.

Ahead of today’s clash, Friday’s edition of AS has published an interview with the Arsenal summer signing.

The newspaper asked him about his life in the English capital so far. When responding to that, the centre-back said he was convinced about joining the Gunners after a chat with Mikel Arteta.

“I feel great at the club and in the city. From the first moment Arteta spoke to me, I had no doubts about going to Arsenal,” he said.

“There’s an incredible group of players. Plus, there are a lot of Spanish speakers who have helped me adapt.”

At Arsenal, William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães are ahead of Mosquera for the centre-back position.

On competition, he added: “When I signed, I knew I was going to face them, two world-class stars, but that was the club’s idea: to have players competing for every position to go as far as possible.”

The Arsenal signing hasn’t represented Spain’s senior team yet, and until he does so he’s also eligible to represent Colombia. The newspaper report his national team future is ‘up in the air’.

AS put it to the player that he was contacted by Colombia and asked what happened. Responding to that, Mosquera said: “As I said, what depends on me is to focus on my club, and doors will open.”

That sounds like the Arsenal player, who was born in Alicante, is holding out for Spain.
