Aston Villa’s Philippe Coutinho has been on loan at Vasco da Gama since last summer and as things stand, he has to return to Villa Park in the summer.
Vasco da Gama president, Pedrinho, and director of football, Маrcelo Sant’Ana, have both publicly expressed their desire to extend the 32-year-old’s stay.
Globo Esporte state Vasco da Gama’s board are working on the possibility of extending his loan.
It’s not clear whether it’s until the end of the Brazilian football season [December] or until the end of the European season [June 2026]. His contract at Villa Part expires in 2026.
The South American club are prioritising extending his stay and Globo don’t rule out the possibility that Coutinho will be ‘able to terminate his contract’ with Aston Villa. If that happens, he can sign permanently with Vasco da Gama.
The Aston Villa man has a social project under development. He is working on Instituto Philippe Coutinho in Jacarepaguá, a non-profit organisation focusing on education and sporting development of young people.
Coutinho’s great desire to continue gives Vasco da Gama hope of finalising a new agreement.
Vasco da Gama tried to sign Coutinho for free last summer, but Aston Villa rejected it as they didn’t want to book his signing as a loss on their accounts. It’s unclear whether they would be willing to cut ties with him permanently in the upcoming window, but that’s again the stance in Brazil.
