Glen Riddersholm believes new signing Mathias Kvistgaarden will succeed at Carrow Road, after he was asked to give his take following his time coaching at Norwich City.
Danish news source Campo has conducted an interview with Riddersholm to discuss Kvistgaarden’s move from Brøndby.
Riddersholm is quoted as saying: “This signing with Kvistgaarden, I think, is excellent, both for Norwich, but also for Kvistgaarden. When you step out as a young player and have to establish yourself internationally, it (Norwich) is a really good place to start. It’s a kind of family, and it’s not that big of a culture shock.
“I would call it a good and serious move, but also soft step in the right direction. There are also Danes you can get help from, so it’s a super good place to start and a good platform for such a talented and skilled player.”
Kvistgaarden will be alongside former Brøndby players Oscar Schwartau, Emiliano Marcondes and Anis Slimane at Norwich City.
Riddersholm went on to explain the move hadn’t come as any surprise to him, adding: “So you can interpret it. It’s not something that comes like lightning from a clear sky for me. And neither are other Danes rumoured to be there right now.
“It is a testament to the fact that you have a strategy, and you follow it regardless of who is in the sporting setup, and that makes me happy in some way, because that was the reason I went to the club with Johannes [Hoff Thorup].”
Reading between the lines it would appear Riddersholm is suggesting Kvistgaarden is one of the players identified by himself and Johannes Hoff Thorup before the pair were shown the door in April.
Both have since done lengthy interviews with the Danish media in which they explained they’d been working on a long term project, which included transfers, and were shocked to be stopped in their tracks.
Norwich City signed the Dane for an undisclosed fee, and Brøndby have a 15% sell on clause. The 23-year-old has signed a four-year contract at the club, which also includes an extension option of one year on the club’s behalf.
Kvistgaarden made 38 appearances for Brøndby last season, scoring 23 goals and assisting seven times.
