Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte has shared comments from Botafogo defender Cuiabano, as the player addressed recent transfer links with Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion.
The left-back, who had conversations with both Nottingham Forest and Brighton earlier in the transfer window, saw talks collapse before anything concrete materialised. After Botafogo’s Copa do Brasil clash with RB Bragantino, he took the opportunity to shut down the speculation.
“I am a Botafogo player. I’m here to help. I’m very happy here,” he stated, leaving little room for doubt.
The 21-year-old has been one of the few bright spots in a struggling Botafogo side and, unsurprisingly, caught the eye of English scouts, especially after his Club World Cup displays against PSG and Seattle Sounders.
At one point a move to Nottingham Forest was seen as on the verge of happening but he slipped out of the trio of players involved and sat back as Igor Jesus and Jair Cunha sealed their Premier League transfers.
With the deals falling through, and no fresh movement reported, Cuiabano appears focused on the job at hand. That doesn’t mean the door is closed forever – just that for now, the Premier League will have to wait.
