Paraguayan journalist Christian Martin has shared a glowing review of Diego León’s early days at Manchester United, pointing to a “fantastic” start for the young fullback as he adapts to life at one of the world’s most high-profile clubs.

Speaking to Versus Paraguay, Martin said the balance so far is “very positive” for León, who played in the 0-0 draw against Leeds United and left a strong impression on manager Ruben Amorim.

According to him, Amorim “really likes Diego León’s physical strength; how he drives forward through the middle when he has the ball”, especially when the team drops into a back five. “Really very physical,” he added.

Martin highlighted the fullback’s attitude and commitment during training sessions and in matches. He pointed to León’s appearance in the 66th minute of the second friendly, a 2-1 win over West Ham United in New Jersey, when he replaced starting left-back Patrick Dorgu.

“In training and off the pitch, he’s clicked with the group. He’s integrated very well,” he said. “He’s earning respect on the pitch with good performances, lots of energy, really pushing the team. For now, the balance is fantastic.”

According to Martin, insiders at the club have expressed positive feelings about León’s potential, and that there are no plans to send the 20-year-old out on loan. “They want to keep him,” he said, explaining that what León does in this pre-season is “decisive”.

According to the journalist, the club sees players like León as part of a larger cultural shift within the squad. “They want powerful players to bring back that combative spirit that used to define the club,” he said. Martin added that León, along with the Portuguese and Brazilian arrivals, is helping Manchester United recover “a bit of the old spirit” that made the team so iconic over the years.

The player’s next steps will depend on his performances in the coming weeks, but his presence is already being felt in Amorim’s squad.
