If there’s a man who loves the sound of his own voice, it’s Radu Dragusin’s agent Florin Manea. Tottenham fans will know that well.
Barely a week goes by in which Manea isn’t talking about his client. And that hasn’t stopped since he left Tottenham in the summer.
Dragusin is currently on loan at Fiorentina, having arrived from Tottenham in the summer. that deal includes an obligation for the Italian side to buy at the end of the season.
The plan for the 24-year-old is to get his career back on track in Italy after a disappointing two years at Tottenham in which he managed just 48 appearances and failed to convince several managers, including Roberto de Zerbi.
He’s already well on the way to doing that, with several appearances in all competitions under his belt so far.
Eyes on the future
Manea now has his eyes firmly on the future. And he’s confident his client will soon be back to his best, and worth the €28m Tottenham paid for him two years ago.
“We aren’t thinking about that right now,” he told Sport in Romania.
“I know, and I’ve said so publicly, that at some point he will return to his previous market value; the offers and interest that existed before his injury will return, and we want to move to a club at a higher level than Tottenham.
“But that isn’t the main thing. He wants to play for Fiorentina. We’ll see what happens in two or three years, but I don’t think he will leave Fiorentina before two years have passed, under any circumstances.”
Transfer planned
Manea also wants everyone to know that the loan plus obligation deal they’ve agreed was very much a part of their own plans.
“He is doing very well in Florence,” he added.
“Naturally, when we decided to return to Italy, we knew why we were doing it; we wanted him to stay, not just be there on loan.
“Radu is a sensible young man with above-average intelligence; he is willing to work hard and make sacrifices. That is why I have never doubted his quality.”
The agent is also convinced that the future will be nothing but positive for his client. But he also wants to point out that the past, particularly at Tottenham, is not as negative as some would paint it.
“I’ve never had any doubts, and I’m certain he will come back stronger than before because he is better prepared and more motivated,” he concluded.
“He managed to make the best of a terrible situation—his injury—and moved forward; I have no concerns about his future. Let’s not forget how old Radu Drăgușin is, though.
“He is 24 years old and has his whole career ahead of him; as a center-back, players usually reach maturity around age 26 or 27.
“He already has two Premier League seasons under his belt, won the Europa League and the Coppa Italia with Juventus, and even played in the European Championship—and he is still very young.”
