Tottenham Hotspur are very unlikely to make any exit for Pedro Porro an easy one, with it viewed as ‘an almost impossible transfer mission’ back in Spain.
Reports over the last few weeks have hinted that Porro was growing increasingly unhappy with life at Tottenham after starring at the World Cup.
The full back was one of the key players for Spain as they won the tournament this summer. Naturally that meant his star rose as well.
And as such, he started looking beyond Tottenham, who have finished 17th in the Premier League in the last two seasons.
Transfer talk
Sport Witness reported earlier this month that Porro was ‘increasingly convinced’ that Tottenham was not the place for him. He could, and perhaps would, be seeking a new location for next season.
The obvious candidates were the big two in Spain – Barcelona and Real Madrid. Barcelona are long-term admirers and have an issue at right-back at present.
Indeed, manager Hansi Flick is currently using Eric Garcia as an emergency right-back despite him being a centre-back by trade.
Over at Real Madrid, they have both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Denzel Dumfries at their disposal. But neither of those have convinced Jose Mourinho, who is regularly using Federico Valverde in the position.
Consequently, both clubs are in the market for a right-back. Porro is at the top of the list of targets. Sport Witness even reported earlier this month that Real Madrid could move to sign the 27-year-old as revenge on Barcelona for stealing Rodri from under their noses.
Impossible mission

Sport, though, report that getting Porro out of Tottenham ‘appears to be an almost impossible mission.’
First and foremost, he recently signed an extension through to 2031. That includes an option for an additional year. It is seen as a reflection of the strong bond he shares with Spurs.
Porro is, reportedly, also happy in London. That’s a direct contradiction to what’s been reported already, but Sport say that’s the case. They argue that he shares an excellent rapport with Roberto de Zerbi and has backed him strongly in recent weeks.
That has only strengthened as Spurs have climbed off the bottom of the table, beating Coventry and then Chelsea.
Then there is his valuation. Transfermarkt have him at €45m but Tottenham are ‘known for driving a hard bargain’. They would likely demand a significantly higher fee for the Spaniard.
Sport again say that they benefit from knowing the player is happy at the club. That strengthens their negotiating hand. And while any offer from Barcelona or Real Madrid would be welcomed, it seems they believe they’re in a position to reject them.
It will all depend on Porro. But after a couple of wins, it seems he’s now changing his mind on his Tottenham future.
