Barcelona are closely monitoring Tottenham Hotspur star Pedro Porro as he wants to leave the Premier League side and return to Spain.

The right-back has been a regular for Tottenham since joining them from Sporting in January 2023.

His performances for the club helped him return to the national team in 2024. Porro has been a key member of Luis de la Fuente’s squad since then and won the World Cup in the summer.

The 27-year-old had attracted interest from a few clubs in the last window. The north London club, at Roberto De Zerbi’s request, took action and offered him a new contract until 2031.

He missed the international break because of an injury and didn’t feature in Spurs’ 1-1 draw against Manchester United at the weekend.

Tottenham man has clear plan for future

Last week, Sport Witness covered a report from Spain that the former Girona man wants to return to La Liga. This has put Barcelona and Real Madrid on alert, and both clubs have sounded him out.

Sport now picks up on that and focuses on Barcelona’s plan and their chances of securing his services.

Despite the renewal, Pedro Porro is ‘increasingly convinced’ his time at Tottenham Hotspur is coming to an end. He doesn’t see himself as part of their long-term project and is ‘seriously considering’ returning to Spain.

Barcelona have been following him for a while mainly because he fits Hansi Flick’s requirements. However, a move remains complicated for several reasons.

Spurs to have big say

The La Liga winners aren’t planning to spend big on a fullback unless one of their current players were to leave. Jules Koundé and Alejandro Balde are the main candidates.

Koundé’s exit can make room in the right-back position while Balde’s sale can help Barca raise funds. Even if this were to happen, the Camp Nou side have to convince Spurs and that won’t be easy.

Pedro Porro’s renewal doesn’t include a release clause, and Tottenham Hotspur have no urgent need to raise funds. This gives the English club full control over his future. In order to convince Tottenham Hotspur to sell, Barcelona have to make a tempting bid.

Sport states: ‘Therefore, any negotiation would require a considerable outlay, and the player’s wishes could prove decisive.’

Roberto De Zerbi’s side are yet to register their first league win of the season and are now 19th in the table. Should they continue to struggle for third year in a row, Porro may put pressure on Tottenham to force an exit next summer.
