Tottenham have been linked with a move for sporting director Piero Ausilio in recent weeks. The Italian was spotted at a Serie A clash this week.
Sport Witness have tracked how the London club have been in discussions for the former Inter Milan director.
He departed the Nerazzurri at the start of the season, as the parties involved couldn’t agree to a renewal. Ausilio was looking for a pay rise but the Oaktree ownership failed to offer him guarantees.
This left Tottenham a major candidate to land him, with Roberto De Zerbi being seen as a key aspect for the deal. There has, in fact, been confidence that he will join the London club.
Now, an interesting transfer idea has emerged.
Ausilio spotted at Cagliari game

Sportmediaset report Ausilio made a rare public appearance on Monday and it was his first since leaving Inter.
He was in the stands to watch Cagliari take on Monza, in a game that ended 4-0 for Ivan Juric’s side. The outlet note that Italy international and Cagliari star Alessandro Romano was the focus of attention.
Ausilio took a close look at the 20-year-old, with ex-colleague Dario Baccin also present on Inter’s behalf.
Calciomercato IT add some more information about the midfielder, noting that Romano is of interest to many clubs. He also has suitors in the Premier League, which could be an indication that Tottenham are in the race too.
The talent’s current value stands at €20m, with Cagliari set to sign him permanently after the initial loan soon.
Our take: Player has a high ceiling
Romano did well for Italy when he was called up to the national team recently. Attention around him grew significantly because of that, with the player boasting a clear ability to dictate play from deep.
Tottenham signed Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali in the summer for a hefty price. But Romano is more a pure tempo dictator than the other two and has a very specific role.
Roberto De Zerbi hasn’t exactly used the two new signings in deep midfield either. This could make Romano a quality signing, especially if Ausilio ends up in London.
