Piero Ausilio is set to leave Inter Milan and he has attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
The Italian has won several titles during his time with the Nerazzurri, masterminding them to the Serie A title last season. Even under Antonio Conte and Simone Inzaghi, he was key to having the right building blocks in place for the San Siro club.
His exit will come as a big blow, with Inter facing several higher management changes.
Now, this could become an attractive opportunity for Tottenham.
Spurs have shown interest
Tuttomercatoweb report that Ausilio could leave Inter soon, even if his current deal expires in 2027. He is, in fact, ready to depart and seek new pastures.
Several clubs are in the picture, however, Tottenham have ‘shown the most interest’ in the Italian in recent weeks.
The report looks at Spurs’ recent tradition of hiring directors and managers from Italy. Fabio Paratici, now at Fiorentina, played a role in their Europa League win in 2025. Antonio Conte didn’t make a mark as a manager but this Italian tradition could potentially appeal to Ausilio.
The same could apply to Roberto De Zerbi, whose presence will make things easier for the famed director.
Ausilio would be a huge coup
The 51-year-old has been at Inter since 2005 and held various roles. His skillset has allowed Inter to be a stable footballing institution that has a very consistent identity. This sets them apart from most other major Italian clubs.
That is exactly what Tottenham need. They have struggled without an identity in the post-Mauricio Pochettino era.
That is what De Zerbi is trying to change with his approach to the game. Adding someone like Ausilio to back him could be a great move, and could even stop the manager from going overboard with signings. Strategy would be added to Tottenham recruitment rather than just listening to what the manager wants.
