Edoardo Bove has become an important player for Watford since last season and the Italian has opened up about his future in London.

The midfielder joined on a free transfer in January. He made 11 Championship appearances in the 2025/26 campaign, scoring one goal. This has helped him gain prominence, with the former AS Roma player having played five times this season before an injury struck him down.

This hasn’t stopped Bove from becoming a bit of a star off the pitch, though. A documentary that centres on his struggles is to come out in Italy next month.

The Watford star has been promoting it actively and has now been asked about his future at club level.

Player open to challenges

Edoardo Bove was at the Rome Film Fest on Sunday and was involved in a press conference regarding his upcoming documentary.

He opened up about it, saying – via Gazzetta dello Sport: “This isn’t a film about my return to the field, but about a young man who sees the trajectory of his life diverted into an empty space he must fill. I’m happy with how it turned out.

“I didn’t want it to be a documentary about a footballer, but something capable of reaching beneath the surface.”

The midfielder was also asked about his future in the game. Bove noted that he is happy at Watford but remains open to a big move at some point in the future. He would also be interested in a return to Italy, if the country changes regulations around defibrillators.

He said: “Would I return to play in Italy if the eligibility rules were to change? I’m happy where I am now; playing abroad was one of my goals.

“But I can’t deny that I always follow the Italian league and, with an ear and a glance every now and then, I’m still here. Why not, in the future, I might even return.”

He also spoke about a possible return to Roma, provided the rules change.

“I’ve always remained attached to Roma and Italy. I don’t want to close off any avenues; we don’t know what football holds. A dream? I’d say more of a possibility. The Giallorossi? I think they’ve started well, but the season is long.”

Our take: Hornets providing Bove a strong foundation

Previously, it has been clear that the Pozzo family’s connection with Bove was key in the transfer to Watford. It was a deal which was simply meant to help the player play regularly, pick up some form and re-acquire his previous status.

Slowly but surely, that is happening. While the 24-year-old is becoming more than just a footballer, he should be a regular when he returns from injury.

That will help not just Bove but Watford as well. The Hornets will be able to get a significant sum from his sale, whenever the Italian departs.
