AIK Fotboll’s Taha Ayari isn’t closing the door on a move to Brighton & Hove Albion, after Seagulls star Yasin Ayari encouraged the Premier League side to sign him.
The Ayari brothers graduated from the Swedish club’s academy. The 23-year-old left them for Brighton in January 2023 while the winger is still at AIK.
Yasin initially went out on loan to Coventry City and Blackburn Rovers and has been a regular since the 2024/25 season. This coincided with Fabian Hürzeler’s arrival at the club.
The Sweden international midfielder made 85 appearances for the Seagulls and 10 are from this season. He has established himself at The Amex and at the national team.
Yet to hold talks with Brighton star
During the last international break, the Swedish media specifically asked Yasin Ayari which Allsvenskan player he would like to sign for Brighton & Hove Albion. When responding to that, he mentioned Taha Ayari.
He said: “My brother. When they feel like it.”
The AIK Fotboll attacker spent two months on the sidelines and returned to action in their defeat to Brommapojkarna on October 10th. At the weekend, his side settled for a 2-2 draw against IFK Göteborg.
Prior to this clash, Expressen caught up with the 21-year-old to discuss his return and a few other topics. Towards the end, Taha responds to his brother urging Fabian Hürzeler’s side to sign him.
“I haven’t spoken to him [Yasin] about it. I read it just like anyone else would. It was funny. I had a laugh. It would have been fun. But I just had a laugh about it,” he said.
Dreams of playing with Brighton man
Taha Ayari has represented Sweden U21s but is yet to make his senior debut. He remains hopeful to play alongside the Brighton & Hove Albion player at some point in the future.
“But we both know it’s something that would have been great for both of us and the family. I think we make up for each other’s weaknesses a bit there as well,” Taha explained.
That may not be at The Amex. Yasin Ayari’s contract runs until 2027, with the English club having an option for another year. Last month, the midfielder said he’s unsure of his long-term future.
Even if Yasin were to extend his stay, it’s unclear whether Taha’s performances so far can tempt the Seagulls. He has two goals and two assists from 13 matches for AIK this year.
