Liverpool‘s Bradley Barcola says he’s still adjusting to the needs of the English football and Andoni Iraola’s approach, after joining the Premier League side from Paris Saint-Germain for €145m on August 31st.

The France international had spent his entire playing career in his country before joining Liverpool.

He graduated from Lyon’s academy and made his way into their first team in 2021. After spending two years there, the Ligue 1 side sold him to Luis Enrique’s side in August 2023 for a reported fee of €45m.

In Paris, the 24-year-old only played under the Spaniard’s orders. He scored 39 goals and contributed 37 assists from 152 matches for PSG, winning the Champions League on two occasions.

Slow start to Liverpool spell

In August, Bradley Barcola returned to PSG, after representing France at the World Cup. Les Bleus lost to England for the third-place finish.

He wasn’t part of Luis Enrique’s plans and had his heart set on joining Liverpool. After weeks of negotiations, the attacker completed the move to Anfield on the penultimate day of the window.

The Frenchman has been operating in his preferred role on the left wing at Liverpool. He went through six matches without scoring or assisting for Andoni Iraola’s side.

Three days ago, Sport Witness covered French concerns over his poor start with the Reds. Later that day, he not only opened his account but scored a hattrick in the 6-3 Champions League win over LASK. That, and his assist in the victory over Brentford, should be enough to keep his critics quiet for a while.

Liverpool summer signing adjusting to PL

Bradley Barcola spoke to Téléfoot to discuss his first few weeks at Liverpool. He also talked about the difference between Parc des Princes and Anfield, and L’Equipe have relayed his comments.

He said: “I’m trying to adapt because it’s really different from PSG. It’s going well. I’ve met my teammates, there’s a very good coach too, who has some good ideas.

“The Premier League? It’s different, I find it less tactical! Back then, we (at PSG) also had a very, very tactical coach. But yes, I find it less tactical, there are fewer changes on the pitch. It’s true that with the previous coach (Enrique), I had to come on, go out wide… Now, it’s very different.”

The Frenchman didn’t have a full pre-season because of his involvement at the World Cup and his situation at PSG. He joined the Merseyside club towards the end of the window.

These are factors that may impact his overall performances this season, similar to what Alexander Isak experienced last season.
