Harry Winks left Leicester City to join Cagliari in the summer and has now opened up about his life in Italy.

This is the Englishman’s second spell in the country. During his time at Tottenham, he had a loan stint at Sampdoria, which helped him at the time.

At Cagliari, things have looked positive too. He has become a leader for the Sardinian side, who find themselves in the Serie A’s top six.

This has already attracted praise in Italy for Winks, who has played every league game so far.

Player opens up about transfer

The midfielder has now spoken to DAZN about life in Sardinia, at Cagliari and also opened up about his exit from Leicester City.

He clearly fell out with the club’s fans at the end of the spell, with an unsavoury public spat topping it all off.

Despite that, he has good memories of Leicester City and wants to see them get back to their previous levels.

He said, while speaking about their double relegation –  via Cagliari Official: “It’s difficult to explain Leicester’s double relegation. There are many problems that can lead to such a situation, I don’t think there’s just one thing. But it’s a fantastic club.”

Praising the club further, Winks admitted he has a lot of respect for the King Power Stadium side.

“I know how much Ranieri is respected at Leicester: what he’s done for Leicester is incredible, as is what he’s done here at Cagliari. Leicester is a club with which I have great memories, one that I respect greatly, and I hope it can return to where it deserves to be.”

The Englishman revealed that his spell at Sampdoria was key to convince him about a return to Italy.

“I returned to Italy after three years, after playing for Sampdoria, because my experience in Genoa was difficult. We lost a lot of games, but I really enjoyed my time in Serie A. I loved football, the culture of Italian football, and Italy in general.”

“Coming to a place like Cagliari, a truly passionate club with a very passionate fan base, on an island where Cagliari is the most important team, really means feeling a sense of belonging, of family with the fans.”

Player enjoying career resurgence

While being a key player, Winks has also been tasked with a leadership role at Cagliari. He has helped Alessandro Romano quite a bit, helping the midfielder become a full Italy international.

The club’s project is also in its infancy, with a young manager in Fabio Pisacane impressing this season. A team like that needs a player of Winks’ experience, as they look to establish as a top half of Serie A side.
