Juventus are the masters of transfer dithering right now, with the Italian media making it clear how complicated the situation is at the club.

Ahead of the Christmas period it was repeatedly reported in Italy that Juventus needed at least one midfielder in the winter market. Paul Pogba is facing a lengthy ban after a doping violation and may not play for the Turin club again, and Nicolo Fagioli is serving a gambling ban.

Adrien Rabiot has been impressing, but he can’t do it all on his own. Others, including Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg have been on the list.

Indeed, it’s been the Tottenham player who has been linked the most. Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips was brought into the picture, and was even considered an easier signing, but Juve manager Max Allegri wasn’t keen.

Tuesday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport reports Højbjerg ‘has become the favourite’, but dealing with Tottenham ‘isn’t easy’.

Taking the midfielder on loan with a ‘right of redemption’, it must be noted Spurs have wanted something stronger, is ‘not an easy choice to make’.

So it would appear Juve are even dithering over a deal which may not be available.

Over at Gazzetta dello Sport they say Allegri isn’t ‘entirely convinced’ by either player, and – wait for this – Juventus may wait until the summer to recruit.

That’s because they feel the Pogba situation can be resolved by then. Not that they’d have him back, it’s felt his ban will be confirmed and the Serie A side can cancel his contract.
