Leeds United icon Marcelo Bielsa could be in line to leave Uruguay, with an internal battle now underway after Luis Suarez spoke out against him.
La 10 cover the situation today and how Bielsa finds himself ‘between a rock and a hard place’ with the Uruguay squad split right down the middle.
All appeared to be going well with Bielsa and Uruguay, who were his first job back in football after leaving Leeds in February 2022.
A record of 11 wins in 19 games, just four defeats and 42 goals scored and just 18 conceded certainly would suggest as much for the former Leeds boss.
However, things have taken a turn for the worse over the last few months after Luis Suarez came out and publically criticised the Argentine boss following his retirement.
That led to a clear, definitive split in the group, with some deciding to back the manager and others echoing what Suarez had said.
La 10 now report that Bielsa is ‘between a rock and a hard place’ and he could leave the Uruguay bench due to the bad relationship he now has with several players on the team.
The outlook is not encouraging and Bielsa could even resign before the next international break. Things internally are complicated, to say the least, and the way the group broke down has now sat well with him.
Diego Aguirra is already being lined up as a replacement and is ready to take the reins in case Bielsa decides to depart.
That’s yet to be decided but it seems the former Leeds manager is heading in that direction, with the internal split in the camp seemingly irreversible.
