Tottenham are the latest Premier League club said to be seriously interested in signing Franck Kessie from Atalanta.

A couple of days ago Calciomercato reported Tottenham had already offered €23m to sign the midfielder, leaving Juventus unsure about going ahead with their own plans to get him.

Juve don’t want to pay more than €20m, and aren’t interested in getting involved in an auction, so the Spurs approach would seem to trouble that. Today, Calciomercato reiterate that Juventus have pulled back, and that would give Mauricio Pochettino a clear run at the player.

As well as Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal were also linked in the first Calciomercato article. Liverpool and Manchester City were linked earlier this monthSouthampton were linked in November, and Sunderland failed with an attempt to sign Kessie in the summer due to work permit issues.

It’s not just Tottenham and their Premier League brethren being linked to Kessie, it’s got to the stage that names of clubs, and supposed bids, are thrown in to spice the story up. A defensive midfielder, 20 year old Kessie scored a group of goals at the beginning of the season and since then he’s been a rumour mill favourite.

Given the amount of claims, it’s worth taking all of them with a pinch of salt, and we’re yet to see anything which stands out and looks like a concrete claim for Tottenham or any other English club.

Pochettino signed Victor Wanyama in the summer, and already had Eric Dier plus other options who could perform a role similar to Kessie.
