Argentina’s biggest football star today isn’t Lionel Messi.
With three saves in the penalty shoot-out against Colombia in the Copa America semifinals, Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez became a national hero last night.
The 28-year-old’s incredible performances were highlighted by the fact that he provoked every single Colombian player before their shots, and his mind games were more than enough for his team’s win.
Now it turns out that besides all the emotions that were shown in the post-game interviews last night, a revelation was also made by Martinez’s brother.
Speaking to TyC Sports, Alejandro Martinez revealed that the child of the Aston Villa player was born at the weekend, and no one knew about it, especially because he couldn’t leave Brazil to witness it.
“Dibu was a father four days ago and he lived it by phone, I don’t know if many of them knew about it. That gave him more strength,” said Alejandro (via Olé).
Argentina have now clinched a place in the final to face Brazil, which will be played at the Maracanã Stadium on Saturday night.
There’s now no doubt the Aston Villa star will now be full of confidence for that match, wanting to bring the trophy home for the latest member of his family.
