Most Manchester United supporters remember that back in 2012, the club came really close on signing Lucas Moura from São Paulo.

Reports said it was all agreed for Sir Alex Ferguson to get the Brazilian starlet, but a last minute offer from Paris Saint Germain changed it all.

And it turns out that the Red Devils tried to sign him again six years later, this time with José Mourinho in charge.

Sport Witness had an exclusive story reporting the contacts at the time, saying the Portuguese manager wanted a right winger for the squad, and Lucas was his favourite option.

Now Lucas has been interviewed by Bolívia, from Desimpedidos, and was directly asked if it was true that Mourinho tried to take him to Old Trafford.

Lucas confirmed the story, and explained the reason why he chose to sign for Tottenham Hotspur instead.

“If it was Mourinho who asked, I don’t know. But there was contact from Manchester, yes. It was exactly that. At the time, the interest was for me to be loaned. And I didn’t want to. Because I wanted to get out of Paris,” Lucas Moura told Desimpedidos.

“Like I said, five years there, the last few months had been difficult. I didn’t want to leave with the risk of going back later. I wanted to get out at once, to go for a new step. And that was how Tottenham showed up and wanted to buy me permanently, so I chose Tottenham.”
