The Turkish media today shares some surprising news on the future of Orkun Kökçü.

According to Fotospor, Liverpool now stand as new candidates to sign the midfielder from Benfica this summer.

Recent reports from the player’s home country had been saying that Besiktas wanted him, with a director even watching him in action recently.

However, it’s now said that Arne Slot, who managed Kökçü at Feyenoord, would like to bring him to Liverpool.

Fotosport make it sound like Besiktas wouldn’t stand a chance to fight for the signing against the Reds, so they basically take the news as a failure in the Turkish side’s chase.

Benfica signed Kökçü from Feyenoord last summer, paying €25m for his signing, and it’s now claimed they could sell him for a record fee.

We must say we’re still to see something in the Portuguese media about Liverpool’s interest in the player. He had some ups and downs with the Eagles this season, and interest from the Reds would be very fortunate.

Kökçü played in many positions and even got into a goalscoring streak with four goals in the last six league games, and we should soon get to know if the Reds’ chase is real.
